Requirements

What do you need to run bZone?

  • A Yamaha A-series sampler:
    - A3000 running OS 2.0
    - A4000/A5000
I can personally confirm that these are great machines to test bZone with ;-)
Apart from that, they are great creative samplers.
  • A PC running 32bit MS Windows.
    Meaning Win95, Win98, WinME, WinNT 4.0 or Win2000.
  • A bidirectional MIDI link between PC and the sampler.
This means: the MIDI out of your PC should go to the MIDI in of the sampler. And vice versa. You can of course put other instruments in between, as long as they perform MIDI thru. If you wish to use an external keyboard with bZone (for editing and testing), you'll need a MIDI patchbay or a multi port interface. Note that not all MIDI cards/interfaces handle heavy system exclusive traffic equally well. Check the MIDI Interface Compatibility List.
  • 1024x768 pixels and true color display.
bZone will run with less colors but look not quite look as expected.

MIDI Interface Compatibility List

Here's a list of cards/interfaces that have shown to work (ok) or not work (nogo) with bZone. When a card is marked non working, it means the card has shown problems with heavey MIDI sysex on some systems. It might work for you, but is not recommended for using with bZone.

It seems that some USB MIDI interfaces have problems with heavy sysex. It is said that this is a problem with USB although some manufacturers have found a workaround. A bit more info can be found here. If you are planning on getting one and plan to use it with bZone, please check this list if it is listed as working
